Issue 56 of MyM magazine is out now, featuring Disney’s MoanaFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and our massive Christmas gift guide!

EDITOR’S LETTER

Welcome to issue 56! And happy Christmas! OK, so we’re just a teensy bit ahead of our time – Halloween is barely behind us! – but when you’ve spent as much time as we have hunting down amazing Christmas gift ideas, you can’t help but feel a little festive.

We’ve had our geek dreams shattered just one too many times on Christmas day (that box last year was so the right shape to be a remote-control BB-8 droid, but hey, thanks for the spiralizer…) and we’re determined not to let the same happen to you. So if you want to score big this festive season, we suggest you leave this magazine open on pages 26-27 or 28-29 and give your loved ones a bit of a present-buying nudge.

But hold on. As we face the prospect of bidding sayonara to 2016 before our feet have barely trodden its paths, there’s still plenty of good stuff to enjoy. For starters, we sniff another Disney classic in the making with Moana (see page 19), thanks to a charismatic fella they call The Rock. Not to be outdone, the Harry Potter franchise makes a welcome return to our screens, as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits cinemas (see page 76).

It’s also a bumper month for anime fans. Scotland proved once again that it really does love anime (see page 56), as we report back on one of the most eclectic line-ups at the Scotland Loves Anime festival. We also pick out the excellent, intriguing and just plain out-there shows you should be watching from anime’s new autumn season (page 47), before getting to the genre’s main event…

Your Name has been toppling Japanese box office records like a DC-hero super-scrap topples buildings, and it’s finally arrived on our shores. Is it as good as you’ve heard? Why not check out our review on page 71 and find out. And once you’ve done that, hear from the man himself, Makoto Shinkai, on the huge personal effort that goes into making his films as good as possible.

With that, we’re off for a cuppa and to hunt out some chocolate. That 2017 feature on Easter eggs isn’t going to write itself…
