One of the best timed sequels in history. The Purge : Election Year is doing fantastic business. THR report that the movie, made for a tiny $10 million budget, is on target to make $12-14 million in it’s opening four days. That’s yet another success for Blumhouse, the production company who’ve pioneered tiny budget, maximum impact horror and genre pictures in the last few years. The Paranormal Activity, Insidious and Sinister series are all Blumhouse success stories, although we’d recommend the extraordinarily good Oculus and Hush if you were looking for places to start with their back catalogue. Also, do listen to Planet Money‘s fascinating look at the company for an idea of how they work.
In the meantime, The Purge : Election Year opens in the UK on August 26th. Although as you’ll see below, it’s French title is much cooler…
