Issue 52 of MyM, the official magazine of MCM Comic Con, is out now – and we’ve set the bar pretty high this month. Featuring an explosion of animation, it includes Ice Age: Collision Course, Disney’s Moana, Anomalisa, Finding Dory, Cannon Busters, Cardcaptor Sakura, The Case of Hana & Alice, Guillermo del Toro’s Trollhunters and all the other highlights from Annecy 2016!

EDITOR’S LETTER

We blame our trip to Annecy, because it’s all got a little bit animated here at MyM! Our yearly pilgrimage to the animation industry’s biggest showcase saw us wigging out to new Disney clips and lapping up word of Guillermo del Toro’s Trollhunters (see page 68). From there things got a little crazy…

First, we travel back to the Ice Age to chat with director Mike Thurmeier and producer Lori Forte (page 20), as their film franchise makes a bid to be the most successful animated movie series of all time. Finding Dory director Andrew Stanton (page 14) has some way to go to catch up, as the sequel to Finding Nemo lands 13 years after the first film.

When it comes to anime, strap yourself in for a major treat. We chat to director Shunji Iwai about The Case of Hana & Alice, his oddball movie about two mystery-solving schoolgirls (page 47). One of the magical girl genre’s most iconic franchises celebrates its 20th anniversary, allowing us to take an in-depth look at Cardcaptor Sakura (page 28). Cannon Busters creator LeSean Thomas also shares his favourite anime (page 82), as his own Kickstarter toon prepares for launch.

All of which is before we shower you with 10 pages of anime reviews (starting on page 50), which this month are bolstered by three pages of animation movie reviews (page 72). ‘Animation Special’ you say? We couldn’t agree more.
Matt Chapman, Editor
