20,000 leagues under the sea
Deadline
report that 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea is about to launch…again.

As well as the Bryan Singer-directed version in development at Fox, Chinese backed Bliss Media are financing their own version. This isn’t that surprising, after all similar projects tend to be developed at the same time. But things get interesting when you remember this is actually the third 20,000 Leagues movie on the way. Disney have recently tasked James Mangold to direct a live-action Captain Nemo movie that would serve as an origin story for the Captain. Here at MCM, we’re looking forward to all three productions competing to see who can get Sir Ben Kingsley to say yes first.

The Bliss Media version has an ace up its sleeve too. Director Christophe Gans (Silent Hill, Brotherhood of the Wolf) is one of the most underrated directors of his time and, with the right budget and a following wind his version could be something very special. Regardless, fans of super subs, chunky jumpers and undersea action have nothing but good news coming their way.
