lost in space

Netflix continue their increasing fondness for genre with a 10-episode remake of Lost In Space. Deadline have the story, and the details break down as follows:

-The show will again follow the Robinson family as they get lost in space and are forced to struggle against both their own environment and the baggage they brought with them.

– Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote it. They’re best known for Dracula Untold and wrote the upcoming Power Rangers movie.

-They’re also showrunners alongside Zack Estrin, who worked on interesting found-footage-ish horror show The River.

-Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, Centurion, pretty much any pre-season 6 great Game of Thrones episode you’d care to name) is on board and will direct several episodes.

No word on casting yet but with the show a way off yet that isn’t surprising. What is surprising is that this is the third remake attempt. As well as the 1998 movie there was a planned telefilm that fell through when original star Jonathan Harris died. Then in the 2003-2004 season a pilot was made, directed by John Woo(!) and starring Adrianne Palicki among others.

While that version wasn’t picked up, we’re excited to see what Netflix can do with it. The show’s high adventure, friendly approach is rife for a return to screens and Netflix’s recent, excellent Voltron series shows they’re comfortable with this sort of material. The only question is, how can the theme tune possibly top this magnificent piece of cheese?
