JK Rowling is about to make a major return to the spotlight. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has been getting seriously good advanced word and tickets are already starting to approach Hamilton levels of demand. Likewise, Fantastic Creatures and Where To Find Them is building momentum nicely and with it, Rowling is expanding the American side of Harry’s world. It’s not all been plain sailing by any means but the short story she’s currently serializing on Pottermore recently is doing some really fun stuff. And also causing some good-natured fan speculation.

As EW reports, Rowling was asked if there was any similarity between Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin and Gryffindor and their US counterparts Thunderbird, Horned Serpent, Pukwudgie, and Wampus. Specifically, she was asked if Wampus was the equivalent to Hufflepuff. Now, as you may know Hufflepuff has a certain reputation as being the House that doesn’t do very much. Besides as Annie from Being Human put it;

‘I’ve always thought in Hufflepuff they just spend the day making stuff with safety scissors and glitter.’

Rowling’s reply was unequivocal:

“There is no equivalence between Hogwarts and Ilvermorny houses…but don’t diss Hufflepuff!

Mic (Well, wand in this instance) DROPPED. Hufflepuff for the win.

Harry Potter And The Cursed Child opens on July 30th. Fantastic Creatures And Where To Find Them opens on November 18th
