Simon Pegg In Talks For Role In Spielberg’s Ready Player One

According to The Hollywood Reporter Simon Pegg (Shaun Of The Dead, Spaced, Star Trek) is in negotiations for a role in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One, the sci-fi adventure movie set in the future but based on a virtual game influenced by the games, TV, music and films of the ’80s. So Pegg should feel right at home having had his formative cultural education in that era.

He’s up for the role of Ogden Morrow (though Hollywood Reporter has the name as Orgen Morrow, which could be a typo or could be an indication the script changes the name). He’s the co-creator of a massive virtual world called Oasis that dominates the world of the future. He’s fellow creator, James Halliday, is the Willy Wonka style millionaire genius whose death triggers the event of the story when he leaves behind a fiendish game, the winner of which will inherit his fortune.

BUZZ actually thinks Pegg would be better for the Halliday role – he may be dead by the time the movie starts, but he keeps cropping up in virtual form in the book so it would have still been a meaty supporting role. At least Odgen gets to interact with real people.

The Ready Player One cast already includes Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cook and Ben Mendelsohn. It is currently set to be release in March 2018.
