This is probably a piece of news that 99.9% of people hearing it will go, “Well, duh!” but it’s nice to have it confirmed anyway: Han Solo’s BFF Chewbacca will be appearing in the forthcoming standalone Star Wars movie that centres on everybody’s favourite space rogue.
Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed the wookiee’s involvement with the Han Solo spin-off during Deutsche Bank’s 24th Annual Media, Internet and Telecom Conference, describing the 2018 release as “an origin story about Han Solo and Chewie.”
Chewie’s orgin? Um, surely that was when a mummy wookie and a daddy wookie…? oh, never mind.
The Han Solo solo film will be directed by LEGO Movie helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller from a script by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan It will focus on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley. It is set for a release in December 2018.
