Cardcaptor Sakura (20th anniversary illustration cover)CLAMP’s Cardcaptor Sakura will return in a new short manga to tie in with its 20th anniversary since it was first published in Kodansha’s Nakayoshi.

As reported on Natalie, the manga will be a one-off short rather than a new series. A 20th anniversary illustration book compiling previous artwork will also be released in Japan on 24 March (cover pictured).

Nakayoshi originally ran CLAMP’s magical girl series in its pages from May 1996 to June 2000. The story followed ten-year-old Sakura Kinomoto, who accidentally opens a book holding a set of magical Clow Cards. Along with her best friend Tomoyo, and guardian of the cards Kero, Sakura must capture all the Clow Cards before they wreck chaos and destruction.

The manga was distributed in English via Tokyopop from 2000 and more recently in 2010 through Dark Horse Comics in an omnibus format. Many characters from the series also appeared in CLAMP’s Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle.

Nakayoshi will publish the short later this year. However, there are currently no details regarding the story.
