The series, based on the same book that inspired the 1979  Malcolm McDowell/David Warner film of the same name, is about a time travelling HG Wells on ther trail of Jack The Ripper. Rodriguez will play Jane Walker, the museum curator who captivates Wells (Freddie Stroma) upon his arrival in modern day New York. Kevin Williamson (The Vampire Diaries/Scream) is exec producing. jk-simmons1••• JK Simmon, Oscar Winner for Whiplash and Peter Parker’s editor J Jonah Jameson in the Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man films, has nabbed a new comic book role. He’ll be playing Commissioner Gordon in DC’s Justice League movie. Man Of Steel and Batman v Superman helmer Zach Snyder is set to direct DC’s answer to The Avengers, featuring Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher). ••• Amazon will bring Ripper Street to an end after its fifth season. The streaming service rescued the Victorian detective show when the BBC cancelled it after two series. After season three scored record figures on Amazon, it was recommissioned for a fourth and fifth series, but now season five is will be the last. [via The Guardian]

••• US The Office actor Craig Robinson has been signed up for a recurring role in the upcoming second season of USA Network’s critcally acclaimed Mr Robot. Robinson will play Ray, a neighborhood local who reaches out to Elliot (Rami Malek) in his time of need. Joey Bada$$ and Chris Conroy have also recently been added to the 10-episode second season. ••• In a Time Out interview, Game Of Thrones star Kit Harington has tried to put an an end to all those season six rumours. “Look, I’m not in the show any more,” he says. “I’m definitely not in the new series. I filmed some scenes of me being dead – [jokily] it’s some of my best work. I don’t have a clue [about Season 6]. I know how long I’m a corpse for, but I can’t tell you that!”  No one believes him judging by the reaction on the internet.

Peaky-Blinders••• Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders) is in talks to join Universal Pictures’ The Mummy, according to both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. Wallis will play an archaeologist in the film, which also stars Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service) as the monster. This will be the first movie in Universal’s “classic monsters” big screen shared universe. [via Coming Soon]

••• Geena Davis (Thelma & Lousise, The Fly, Stuart Little) has been cast as Angela Rance, a main character the new TV version of The Exorcist for FoxThe character is described as: “Naturally beautiful, regal and proud but weighed down by stress, Angela Rance does everything she can to stay positive and keep her faith even though her family is currently struggling. She can’t help but think, however, if perhaps her nightmares about a demon are a sign of what’s wrong.”

cast_william_whele••• Luke Allen-Gale (Dominion, The Borgias, “Army Heckler” in Captain America: The First Avenger) has been cast as the male lead opposite Aussie Laura Brent in the CW’s Transylvania. The series is set in 1880 and centers on Victoria (Brent), a headstrong young woman in search of her missing father who travels from NYC to Transylvania where she teams with a wrongfully disgraced Scotland Yard Detective, Inspector Godfrey (Allen-Gale). Together they witness the births of the most famous monsters and villains in history.
