Amazon Prime aired episode two of their new original series, The Man in the High Castle, this Friday at MCM London Comic Con to a breath-bated audience. It’s an American dystopian alternate history, based on Philip K. Dick’s 1962 novel of the same name, imagining a world in which the Axis powers won World War II.
The show has faded, misty colouring, emphasising the muted and suppressed world that it explores, one in which the United States has been partitioned into three parts – Japanese territory, German territory, and a neutral zone to act as a buffer between the two.
A woman has discovered something that could jeopardise the Greater Reich’s power if shared with the populace, and now she’s gone on the run. The Nazi’s will do everything they can to find her, interrogating and killing anyone who’s protecting her. But disquiet is already spreading between the ranks and the leading figures of each territory…
It was an intriguing premiere that followed the lives of people from up and down the three divisions, and their struggles to maintain order, to escape their lives, or to subvert the system. It promises to be a fresh feeling idea indeed, wrought with tension, betrayal, and spies.
All 10 episodes are due to be released November 20th 2015.
