EDITOR’S LETTER

Hold the presses! We’ve done a lot of crazy things in our journalistic lives but giving ourselves three hours to run around the press preview at Comic-Con International, just hours before the magazine’s final deadline, is right up there. We distilled our initial reactions to this massive event in San Diego into our opening news pages, before pressing the big red ‘Print’ button and sending the magazine to press. Don’t worry, we’ll be following that taster up with plenty more exclusive interviews, reviews and musings next issue.
It’s been a busy month, though. Our suitcases and backpacks have barely been unpacked before we’ve zipped them up again to head out of the door to the events we know you’ll love to hear about. The Electronic Entertainment Expo – AKA E3 – didn’t disappoint this year, with some big name franchises getting most of the glory (see our breakdown from page 18 and previews from page 48), while the Annecy Film Festival (page 22) brought its laid-back vibe to France once more. We even braved the threat of mud – the weather was great, in your face, naysayers! – at the Glastonbury Festival of Performing Arts (page 12) to bring you a rundown of the best music, sights and cosplay.
If you’ve been thinking of doing some travelling yourself, can we tempt you into a trip to Tokyo? This month’s Planet Japan (page 16) sees travel blogger Tokyo Consult suggest the best things to see on a trip to that city, while our fashion guru Saoirse Clohessy explains why there’s a lot to love about the quirky, bohemian borough of Koenji (page 46).
