Bloomsbury has released a brand new piece of artwork from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone: Illustrated Edition, by artist Jim Kay.

The Kate Greenaway Medal winner has brought Flourish & Blotts to life, showing the bookshop on Diagon Alley where Harry buys his first set of school books. The image appears on the front of a catalogue of new children’s books and is part of a larger illustration of Diagon Alley that will appear in the finished book.

As the text in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone says: “They bought Harry’s school books in a shop called Flourish & Blotts where the shelves were stacked to the ceiling with books as large as paving stones bound in leather; books the size of postage stamps in covers of silk; books full of peculiar symbols and a few books with nothing in them at all. Even Dudley, who never read anything, would have been wild to get his hands on some of these.”

The hardback book is the first fully illustrated edition of JK Rowling’s original novel. It includes a ribbon marker, head and tail bands, illustrated endpapers and artwork on every spread.

The hardback edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone: Illustrated Edition is available globally on 6 October 2015, with an RRP of £30.
