The Wrap has reported that Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to produce a remake of the 2007 CG anime film Vexille – 2077 Isolation of Japan. Evan Spiliotopoulos (Hercules: The Thracian Wars) is scripting the remake, with Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson (Red Dawn) as the producers.

The original film is set in 2077 Japan and follows a female agent named Vexille as she investigates whether the Japanese are creating biotechnological robots, an advanced technology deemed too dangerous and banned by the U.N. When the technology was banned, Japan refused to co-operate with the U.N. and isolated itself from the rest of the world. Vexille must find out if the neo-isolationist nation has gone too far in its quest for technological and human advancement.
