Andy and Lana Wachowski take their futuristic thriller Jupiter Ascending to the streets of London…
On TV, the future looks like an explosion in a tin foil factory that’s hosting an S&M party. In the movies, the world of tomorrow seems destined to be ruled by people who are dressed like extras in an opera.
The first images to surface from Andy and Lana Wachowski’s futuristic thriller Jupiter Ascending show the cast treading a similar catwalk to The Fifth Element – with a dash of 19th Century high-society ball thrown in for good measure.
Those grand designs are matched with grand ambitions in the story, as a poor young immigrant (Mila Kunis) working a menial job on Earth discovers she may actually be the rightful queen of the Universe. Naturally, the current queen isn’t too happy about a possible heir replacing her and dispatches a genetically engineered hunter (Channing Tatum) to track her down.
Whether Tatum sports the same kind of beyond-goth black mouth make-up as the extras – Buzz assumes they are missing their helmets rather than belonging to a future race of Snoopy/human hybrids – has yet to be seen.
