Anime director Makoto Shinkai (5 Centimers Per Second, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, Voices of a Distant Star) has revealed his latest feature-length animated project; titled The Garden of Kotonoha (Kotonoha no Niwa), the film will explore, as Shinkai says, a “story of ‘sad loneliness’ older than even ‘love’.” Shinkai began planning this film in the spring, and hopes to release it in Japanese cinemas in the first half of 2013.
