A live-action adaptation of Hiro Arikawa’s Library Wars light novels is being made; directed by Shinsuke Sato (Gantz films, The Princess Blade, Oblivion Island), the film stars Junichi Okada (From Up on Poppy Hill, Tales from Earthsea), Nana Eikura (The Floating Castle) and Chiaki Kuriyama (Battle Royale, Kill Bill). The film will be released in Japan on 27 April 2013.

Library Wars is set in 2019 when a law on the censoring books and media is enforced; to stop armed forces destroying many literary works The Library Force is created, providing military protection for libraries. Iku Kasahara (Eikura) joins The Library Force in order to fight for the cause.
